How to Calculate The Overall IELTS Score

The Overall IELTS Score is the average of the scores from the four skills: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. The formula is:

Overall Score = (Listening + Reading + Writing + Speaking) / 4

OVERALL SCORE =
LISTENING + READING + WRITING + SPEAKING

4

Rounding Rules for the IELTS Score

Both the Overall IELTS Score and the scores for individual skills (Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking) are rounded to the nearest 0.5 or whole number based on these rules:

  • If the decimal is 0.25, it is rounded up to 0.5.
  • If the decimal is 0.75, it is rounded up to the next whole number.

Refer to the examples below to better understand the rounding rules when calculating IELTS scores.
